"After some time, we see sparkles in the dirt, but we know enought to know that these sparkles are not gold but pyrite. The gold shows itself much more slowly, as a yellow smear at the bottom of the batea. Once the gold is collected, a tiny pile to emerge from all that mud, it is carefully toasted on a hot plate to burn off a bit more of the dross and then stored in an envelope until the buyers come later in the day".
